List fields not appearing in View properties of New Item pages

We have for a while had a problem with a couple of fields, a custom field called Client and the standard field Description) not appearing on our Issues list within project workspaces that have been migrated for our old 2003 environment. These fields appear visible on views but don’t appear at all when creating a new Issue or view/editing the properties of an existing Issue. New workspaces created within the 2007 environment with the same fields do not encounter the problem.

This was a bit of a show stopper for us as the Client field is used to determine whether an issue should be visible on client reports generated from the system. We worked out that we could work around it by dropping into Datasheet View on a view that included Client and Description but this did no fix the problem that the fields weren’t visible at all on pages where they were required (Client is a Mandatory field for obvious reasons).

After working with Microsoft the following solution was determined. This process will have to be applied to every one of our migrated workspaces for active projects.

  1. On the Issues list page select Settings –> List Settings
  2. On the Customize Issues page Under General Settings click on Advanced Settings
  3. Select Yes under Allow management of content types
  4. Click on Ok
  5. The Content Types sections should now appear on the Customize Issues page
  6. Click on the Project Workspace Issue link under Content Types
  7. Click on Add from existing site or list columns
  8. On the Add Columns to List Content Type: Project Workspace Issue page add Client and Description as columns to add to the content type
  9. Click on Ok
  10. On the Add Columns to List Content Type: Project Workspace Issue page click on the Settings link in the breadcrumb trail to return to the Customize Issues page
  11. Under General Settings click on Advanced Settings
  12. Select No under Allow management of content types
  13. Click on Ok

The list should now display Client and Description
